We're recruiting for a Head of Research and Policy and a Senior Administrator

Vegetarian for Life is the leading authority on diet and healthy living advice for older vegans and vegetarians. We work with a diverse variety of stakeholders, including some of the UK's biggest care chains and food suppliers; government; and partner NGOs, to support and protect older vegans and vegetarians.

As we continue to expand our work, we have an opportunity to create the charity’s first Head of Research and Policy and Senior Administrator.

Head of Research and Policy

This critical role will help to drive our lobbying, campaigning, advocacy, and research forward at a critical time for our organisation.

We are looking for an exceptional and passionate individual with proven experience of managing and developing successful integrated campaigns and campaign strategies.

The ideal candidate will drive our impact by using their skills and experience to effectively shape policy and research interventions. They will help Vegetarian for Life to make a real and tangible difference to the lives of older vegans and vegetarians across the UK – both now and in the future.

You will have experience of developing and implementing successful research and campaign proposals and activities. With a good understanding and experience of the UK legislative, regulatory, and governmental framework, you will understand how to navigate and steer stakeholders to achieve legislative change. You will understand how to drive public and media awareness to enable this.

You will be used to working with a variety of stakeholders, and will be a confident and effective communicator at any level – from the general public, through to business leaders, senior government, and regulatory bodies. Management experience is preferred.

Candidates will ideally be based in, or close to, either Greater London or Greater Manchester. The role will include regular travel to both cities and may include overnight stays. Other UK travel may be required, and you must be prepared and willing to travel for this role. The role is primarily home based, with regular attendance at the Manchester office.

Senior Administrator

You will work closely with and support the CEO with a range of critical charity functions. You will effectively deliver administrative support, oversee volunteer liaison, work with suppliers, partners and contractors, and deputise for the CEO when required. Additionally, you will manage a small team of staff and contractors.

We are looking for an experienced, reliable and detail orientated individual with well-rounded experience in senior administrative support, ideally in a charity setting.

The ideal candidate will be confident in dealing with a multitude of internal and external stakeholders; have a good head for numbers; confidence in managing invoice payments and processes; and have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Some direct line management experience is preferred.

This role is primarily office based (subject to legal restrictions relating to COVID-19) at our office in Fallowfield, Manchester. There may be some occasional UK travel required for events and meetings, and you must be prepared and willing to travel for this role.
