V for Life

A vegan Valentine for someone special

Posted by Claire on 02/02/26 in Recipes

Treat someone special this Valentine’s Day with a plant-based menu that reflects your heart: fill it with flavour, creativity, and care. With a little help from her friends, V for Life Roving Chef Claire spreads the love.

By choosing plant-based, low-waste cooking, you’re celebrating a loving moment, while respecting the planet long after the last bite. But to make a special Valentine’s Day, you don't need complicated dishes and to spend hours in the kitchen. Sometimes the most memorable meals are the ones that feel warm, generous and full of flavour, lovingly prepared and shared with someone you care about.

Our advice is to keep it simple; why not start with toast and nibbles?

Begin your evening slowly. Pour a fragrant glass of vegan sparkling wine or apple juice, set soft music playing, and enjoy some small bites while you chat. Try some colourful crudités – a platter of hummus, olives and flatbread make great nibbles – and let the conversation flow before the main event.

For your centrepiece, choose something comforting and lovingly simple. Our mushroom and leek filo pie is perfect for a cosy night in. This warming dish is lightly spiced with mustard and nutmeg, which provide airy overtures to a deep, rich mushroom and spinach filling. Our recipe features shop-bought pastry, but it's a showstopper – you can find it in our One-pot meals guide, which we developed to save you time in the kitchen with less washing up.

Round the evening off on a sweet note with a dessert that feels like a warm hug. Chef Alex has a whopper that will win over any guest: citrusy lemon curd sponge served with banana, chocolate and peanut butter ice-cream, nut brittle and fruit coulis. This sensual citrus experience contrasts a tang of lemon curd with a delicate, sweet sponge.

Finish your romantic meal with something rich and chocolately – our bonbons and truffles are perfect with an after-dinner coffee. Chocolate is the food of love!
